PARIS, 1 Jun 2008 (AFP) - Yves Saint Laurent, um dos grandes estilistas franceses do século XX, faleceu na noite deste domingo em Paris aos 71 anos, informou a Fundação Pierre-Bergé-Saint Laurent.

"Yves Saint Laurent faleceu às 23h10 deste domingo (hora local), indicou a fonte.

Nascido em 1o. de agosto de 1936 em Oran, Argélia, Yves-Mathieu Saint Laurent conehceu a glória desde jovem e se tornou conhecido como o estilista que proporcionou uma nova liberdade às mulheres através de suas criações, especialmente o terninho e o famoso "Le Smoking", apresentado pela primeira vez em 1966.

Ele chegou a Paris aos 17 anos e logo se tornou colaborador de outro peso pesado da alta-costura, Christian Dior (1954), e virou seu sucessor após a morte do mestre em 1957. Seu primeiro desfile aconteceu em 1958. Em 1961 criou sua própria maison em sociedade com Pierre Bergé.

Em 2002, se despediu das passarelas apresentando no Centro Georges Pompidou um desfile retrospectivo de seus 40 anos de criação.

PARIS, June 1, 2008 (AFP) - Yves Saint Laurent, one of the great French designers of the twentieth century, died on the night of Sunday in Paris for 71 years, informed the Foundation Pierre Bergé-Saint-Laurent.

Born on the 1st. August 1936 in Oran, Algeria, Yves-Mathieu Saint Laurent has known the glory since the couple met and became known as the designer who made a new freedom for women through their creations, especially the suit and the famous "Le Smoking", presented by the first time in 1966.

He came to Paris to 17 years and soon became employee of another heavyweight of high-sewing, Christian Dior (1954), and turned his successor after the death of the master in 1957. His first parade occurred in 1958. In 1961 created its own house in company with Pierre Bergé.
